Great place to buy or rent a bike. I ride 50 miles with Make a Wish and do not have a great long distance bike. Sean rented a bike to me to try a couple of years ago and it made the ride so much easier. I was gong to purchase that bike but someone already bought it. So I am back again this year and he rented me another awesome bike. Whether you buy or rent you will have an awesome experience at Hometown. Sean really wants to help everyone enjoy riding bikes. He does so much for our community. His staff is very helpful, and knowledgeable and eager to get you out on a great ride.
My wife and I have only been in the area for about a year and needed someone to maintain my bicycles. I average about 75 miles a week. Shawn , the owner is always friendly when you enter the store and his staff very helpful. My repairs have been done timely and reasonably priced.
When I was shopping for my first bike I went to several of the local and area bike shops. None of them came close to the service Shaun and his staff provided. His passion for bicycles and his community was clear as soon as I walked through the doors. He fitted me with an awesome bike at a great price! My passion for riding grew and I went shopping for a trail bike. I compared several bikes online and around town and again Shaun and his staff found the perfect bike for me. Great quality at a reasonable price. Shaun has remembered my name every time I come in the shop or see him around town. It’s a great place to stop in for bike accessories and catch up on all the cool rides going on around town.
I just moved to the area and was anxious to finally get cycling for the first time in my life. I'm glad Hometown is my local shop, and here are a few reasons why: (1) They were able to fix up both the bike from the 90's that I picked up at a yard sale and my old college bike which had sat neglected for nearly a decade. Prices for the work were reasonable, and at no point did I feel pressured to buying a new bike from the shop (even though they have some really nice ones there). (2) The owner, Shaun, is always approachable for any information, even the dumbest newbie cyclist questions and is not snobby at all. Most other places I've been won't give you the time of day unless it's clear you're going to buy something. (3) Hometown regularly organizes local riding events for all skill levels, and the riders who show up are some of the most welcoming and helpful people I've ever met. I've never felt unwelcome or intimidated; in fact, quite the opposite. When I go to Hometown, I feel like this previously inaccessible hobby/sport of cycling is something I can actually do.
I had spent several months researching the endless choices of gravel/touring/do it all bikes before I stopped at Hometown Bicycles to get a first hand look at Jamis bikes. My budget was ~ $1800. After an hour discussion with Shaun, a quick ride in the parking lot, I said yes this past February to the $1,200 Expat that Shaun suggested. So happy I did. During the course of this Summer I've ridden over 1100 miles (including the US Bike Route 20, and a Century ride this past Thursday. The Jamis Expat is absolutely flawless. I've added rear panniers, frame bag, handle bar bag, moved the bottle cages to the fork, changed to a 60mm/30 degree upright stem, and added a Brooks B17 saddle. The Jamis is an absolute joy to ride. I guess I'll need to surrender to the initial 500 mile check up that I missed 600 miles ago......although I think it's more of a formality as the Jamis is just as smooth today as the day I bought it. Thanks Shaun for the absolute perfect suggestion......Jamis Renegade Expat.
I took my wife in to get a new bike and to make sure she was fitted properly. His staff was knowledgeable and helpful in finding the right type of bicycle to fit her needs. The price was reasonable and she was very happy with the purchased. Her biggest concern was to have a basket on the front to take our 6 lbs. Yorkie for a ride. Shawn suggested a basket and mounted it prior to delivering the bike to our house. His first ride Jackson, the dog gave it 5 stars. Friendly, dependable and timely repairs and some great bikes that are reasonable priced.
